First Day of Class!!

Hey Kids!

First off, welcome back!  I hope that you enjoyed our first day of class.  I sure was very happy to see all of you there and as I said last night I am sure we will be seeing some new kids in our class either on Thursday or next week.  Please be prepared to welcome them.

For those of you who missed this is what we did.  We went over the Student Info Letter that I hand out at the beginning of each semester.  I explained all the notecards that I would like to see handed in on Thursday.  We also added everyone to our classroom group.  For snack kids either ate their lunch or we had cookies and cereal.  It was very fun to go around the room and hear what everyone likes about themselves and what they would like to be when they grow up.  We had some pretty interesting answers to those questions.

Before class was let out I partnered everyone in the class.  These will be your friendship buddies.  Each week I would like you to spend time with your friendship buddy.  It doesn't matter what you are doing.  It can be shopping, it can be building, or just hanging out at home ... the activity doesn't matter to me.  The point is to get to know someone and hopefully make a new forever friend.  On Thursdays I would like you to hand in just a quick notecard about the time you spent with your buddy.  This will be your only homework on Tuesdays along with a journal assignment.  This week I am not requiring buddy time or a journal assignment for Tuesday, because we are still getting settled into class.  The buddy pairs are listed below and if you do not have a buddy please let me know.

Star & Mae Mae
Sammy & Nemmie
A'isha (Ritzy) & Kenzie
Kristine & Shukki
Delaney & Mary
Laila Marie & Annie
Jasper & Marquez
Andy & Calvin
Laila Aubrey & Mina
Goosey & Daisy

I am very excited about this school year and I'll see you all on Thursday!

Welcome Back!

Hey Kids!
Welcome back to school!  What an eventful summer it has been for me, and I'm assuming you too.  I was very busy in my real life with my own education and with my RL family.  We did lots of swimming at the pool and trips to the beach.

This school term is shaping up to be a lot of fun, and we haven't even started yet!  Please check back into this blog regularly because it will be a main source of information about what we are up to and the fun we are having in our class.

Our class will be starting on Tuesday, August 30th at 7pm SLT so see you then!

Summer Time!!!!

Well my little Mad Hatters....
It's that time of year.  Fun in the sun, sand and water and warm weather.  I really do loveeeee summer time.  I love playing in the pool and going to the beach and soaking up the sun's rays (with sunblock on of course).  I know school has been out for us for a bit, but I wanted to send you guys a note to let you know that I was thinking about you!

I really loved our graduation ceremony.  What a very special ceremony.  I also just adored the yearbook.  Ms. Verni and Brenna did a great great job on it.  All the pictures looked wonderful and although I am a bit biased, I do believe our picture was the best.

I will not be teaching this years summer school classes.  So sadly I will not see some of you until next years school term.  I WILL be doing summer camp this year though, so I will see some of you there for sure!

I hope you all have an amazing summer and know that I am thinking of you often.  Please be good and don't get sunburned!

Yearbook Pictures!

Hi Kids!
First I would like to say I am sorry to the kids who missed class today.  You missed our big class photo. :(  Everyone who was there looked REALLY nice and behaved well.

In the beginning of class we did our journal and we also discussed our class project.  After we walked our little tushies down to the gym for our photo we had lunch in the cafeteria.  I had chicken nuggets and Sage kept picking people's tomato's out of their soup o.O ... When we were done with our tasty lunch we spent sometime outside on the playground.  Anyone who wasn't there missed me on my roller skates!!!

This term is going by quite fast.  Please make sure that you are keeping up on your journals and that you have gone to the "Projects" page to read what our class project is for this term.  Also please check the "Announcements" for info about our upcoming field trip!

I also would like to let you guys know that I will be starting class in real life on Tuesday, May 17th.  I will be able to teach on the 16th and 20th and 27th.  My classes for the 18th, 23rd, and 25th will have a substitute.   I will have lesson plans written up for the sub and class will resume as normal.  I expect you all to be on your best behavior and show your good character!

It is going to be a busy couple of weeks with the end of the school year activities but I know we can do it.

See you on Wed.

Pizza Party!!!

Hey there my little kiddos.

On Wed. we had a pizza party courtesy of Fayette.  Thank you so much Fay for providing the pizza and soda for the class it was a great lunch.

During class we discussed why having a good self esteem is key to having a good character and how it builds personality.  We also presented our name banners.  It was such great fun to see how creative you kids can be.  I am so proud of all the hard work.

In the beginning of class we talked about our student information folders.  Most of you have handed them in.  Anyone who has not handed them in I will need them by Friday.   Please check the other pages on the blog for any journal entries you might have missed.

I hope everyone is having a really nice Thursday.

Last Term

It's Tea Time!!!

Hi Hi my little Mad Hatters.  So today was our first day of class for the last term of the year!  It was a really great class and I was SOOO excited to see so many new faces along with some faces I have seen before.

Today we mainly focused on getting to know what the class is about.  I did give out Student Information Packets to all the kids who were new.  I would like those read and the folders handed in to me by Friday.

I also gave out an assignment which will be under the Assignment tab at the top of the blog.

Since our two previous terms in my class were focused on Respect, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, and Citizenship, this next term will be focused on Caring and Fairness.   I am excited to get this term going and to see everything that we have learned.

See you all on Wed.

Citizenship

Hi hi kiddlets!

So this week we discussed what being a good citizen means and how we can go about having good citizenship.  All the kids got to participate and discuss what that meant to them each personally.  I also gave some examples.  Another thing we discussed was what things were NOT good citizenship.  Our homework assignment was to pick an adult and interview them on being a good citizen.  This interview is due on Monday.

We spent sometime talking about our upcoming FIELD TRIP to COSTA RICA!!  Please make sure that you have your permission slips in by Monday BEFORE class so that we are all ready to leave when class starts.  We will be meeting in my class room promptly at 8pm SLT.

Projects will be do on Monday and we will be presenting them on Friday.

Please check the Journals tab for any Journals you may have missed.

Friday's Class

Hi Kids!

On Friday we talked about respect and how to be good listeners.  I asked for volunteers and gave two examples.  The first one showed how a bad listener looks and the second one demonstrated good listening skills.

After we had our lesson we went off into groups and did more listening work in our groups.  I really thought this was successful and I hope that you all will continue to use your good listening skills to show respect for other people.

At the very end of class we discussed a little bit about our next project which I will be putting up on our project page.  As usual our Journals will be posted on the Journal page.

For the new students, please make sure that you have your Student Information Folders into me and also that I have a notecard with your blog url on it.

I hope you all have had a wonderful weekened and I will see you on Monday.

End of Term

Alright kids we have come to the end of term!!!  Everyone should of gotten thier report cards on Saturday the 13th.

Everyone's reports are in and you all did a GREAT job.  I was very impressed by the work you all did.  I also want to tell everyone that I am so proud of your journal work.  Part of your homework grade is based on your journals and this class in particular has done better then any of my previous classes.

On Monday the 14th (our first day of the new term) I will not be here.  Ms. Lauren will be substituting and she has a lesson plan.  I expect you all to be on your best behavior.  Thanks so much kids for a great term and I look forward to the next term.

If you notice I have created a new tab on the class blog named "previous terms".  That page will contain all the info from our previous term so that I can clear out the other pages and make room for the new work we will be doing.

Have a GREAT weekened!!!

Pillars of Character

On Monday in class we learned about The 6 Pillars of Character and why they are important.  The Pillars are: Respect, Trustworthiness, Caring, Fairness, Responsibility, and Citizenship.  We have already done classes on Respect and Trust previously and in the last three classes I am going to be covering the other four.

We went over each Pillar individually after I gave the deffinitions of each.  As we sat in the circle on the carpet the kids all got to add in what they thought each Pillar meant or represented.

This leads us into our class project for this term.  The kids were divided into groups and each group will be creating a "Character Book".   More information about the project is under the Projects  page.

Please make sure that you are checking all pages on the class blog.  I want to make sure that everyone knows about any Announcements, Journals, or Assignments.

I hope everyone has a nice week and I will see you on Friday.

Catching up and on Medicine

Hi my little Mad Hatters!

I am very sorry that as of late things seem to be a little bit crazy.  As most of you know I have been battling a cold for two weeks which turned into Bronchitus.  Also, my daughter in real life has been very ill.  Needless to say it's been quite hectic.  I really appreciate all the offline messages, thoughts and prayers sent my families way.

I have updated the assignments page and the journals page here, so please make sure to check that when you can.  Our last class we talked about building trust and how easy it is to cause that tower of trust to come tumbling down.  We also talked about how it's not so easy to rebuild the tower because we have to clean up the mess that we made destroying the tower first before rebuilding.  I enjoyed our time together building our trust blocks and I hope you all did too.

Tomorrow in class we will be discussing the 6 Pillars of Character and I will be handing out a notecard describing your class project for this term.  The project will also be under the "Projects" page here on the blog.

I hope you all have had a nice weekened.

Hola Kiddos!

I will be late to class on Friday, February 18th due to a real life obligation, so Miss Char is going to be subbing for me untill I get back.  She will have a complete lesson plan for the class and your journal topic is already posted.  I expect all of you to be good little Mad Hatters for her.  If you have not handed in your Student Folders I will expect them in BEFORE class next Monday, February 21st.  When your name banners are done you can hand them in to me and we will be going over them on Monday in class.  If you have any other questions, please just send me a notecard.

Love is in the air ...

Hi Kids!

Happy Valentines Day and welcome back to school!!  Our first day of class was exciting but not too eventful.  For the first half of class we went around the room listening to everyone share why they joined the Character Counts! class and at least one thing they liked about themselves.  It was a very nice time of sharing between everyone.  After that we took our break and walked to the cafeteria to have a snack.  Our class is kind of a late time slot, so we deffinately needed the pick-me-up.  After we got done with our snack time we came back to the room to start our lesson for the day.  We created Name Banners using positive words on notecards and there was also a homework assignment associated with it that is posted under the "Assignments" Tab.  All in All a good first day back.  Please make sure you check the "Journal Topics" tab and have your journal assignment finished by the time Friday comes.  In the future we will do journal topics in the beginning of class.  I hope you all have a nice week and I'll see you Friday!

Welcome to the Tea Party!!

I would first like to say, Hello and Welcome all new and returning students.  I am very excited for this new term at Oceanside to start.  If you look to the top of this post right underneath the picture there are tabs.  Each tab will hold signifigant information for our class and the work we will be doing.  Please make sure that you are checking all the information areas so that you do not fall behind in class.

My hope is that Character Counts will not only uplift all who participate but also the people that they come into contact with.

It is my firm belief that when you feel good about yourself and display good character attributes you uplift those around you.

I look forward to seeing you all on the first day of school and I really appreciate your willingness to spend precious time with me learning.

~Ms. Sarah
